The calculator converts all water volumes to liters internally. It also converts power to kilowatts and time to hours. Time-of-use rates become a weighted average from the peak percentage.

Dishwasher efficiency guidance

A dishwasher estimate depends on more than its wattage. Cycle duration, heating, drying, standby power, and water rates can change total ownership cost. Manufacturer energy data usually gives the strongest starting point. Enter the value that matches your chosen cycle.

Full loads usually reduce cost per plate or place setting. Half-load modes can save some water and energy, but they rarely cut use by exactly half. Avoid unnecessary pre-rinsing when the machine can handle scraped dishes. That change may reduce both water and heating costs.

Eco cycles often use longer run times with lower heating intensity. A longer duration does not always mean greater energy use. Heated drying, sanitizing, and extra rinsing can add measurable consumption. Compare settings under the same number of annual cycles.

Water-heating estimates require an inlet temperature and target temperature. The calculator applies water volume, temperature rise, and heater efficiency. Internal heating can overlap with a rated per-cycle energy figure. Disable separate heating whenever your source value already includes it.

Time-of-use pricing matters when cycles run during expensive hours. Delaying operation to off-peak periods can lower cost without changing energy use. The weighted rate option estimates a mixed schedule. Use actual tariff values for a more realistic result.

Carbon estimates depend on the electricity mix and fuel source. Enter a local emissions factor whenever one is available. Renewable electricity lowers estimated grid-related emissions in this model. Results remain planning estimates rather than audited environmental measurements.

Comparison mode is useful before replacing an older dishwasher. Add purchase prices to estimate lifetime cost and possible payback. A cheaper operating model may still take years to recover its premium. Maintenance, detergent, repairs, and financing are not included here.
