Formula used

Euclid repeatedly replaces two values with a remainder. The last nonzero remainder becomes the GCF. This method also handles very large integers efficiently.

GCF(a, b) = GCF(b, a mod b)
GCF(a, b, c) = GCF(GCF(a, b), c)
LCM(a, b) = |a × b| ÷ GCF(a, b)

Frequently asked questions

What do GCF, GCD, and HCF mean?

They describe the same greatest shared divisor. Naming varies across countries and textbooks. The mathematical result remains exactly the same everywhere.

Can the calculator use negative integers?

Yes, negative inputs are accepted safely. Their absolute values determine shared factors. The reported greatest common factor stays positive always.

What happens when one number is zero?

Zero is divisible by every nonzero integer. Therefore, GCF(0, n) equals |n|. All-zero input remains mathematically undefined by convention.

Why does prime factorisation sometimes get skipped?

Factoring extremely large integers can be slow. Euclid still finds their GCF quickly. The calculator protects performance while preserving accurate results.

When are numbers relatively prime?

Numbers are relatively prime when GCF equals one. They need not be prime individually. They simply share no larger positive factor.

How does GCF simplify a ratio?

Divide every ratio term by the GCF. This keeps the same proportional relationship. The resulting ratio uses the smallest whole terms.

How are GCF and LCM related?

For two nonzero integers, their product connects both. Specifically, GCF times LCM equals absolute product. Multiple-number calculations apply the relationship pairwise.

Can I process several number sets?

Yes, choose batch calculations before submitting. Put one number set per line. The table reports GCF and LCM together.

Does the calculator support very large integers?

Yes, Euclidean calculations use decimal string arithmetic. Each integer may contain 250 digits. Some educational extras use smaller safety thresholds.
