Frequently asked questions

What is uniformly accelerated motion?

It is motion with constant acceleration over time. Velocity changes equally during equal time intervals. Position normally follows a quadratic time relationship.

Which values need negative signs?

Values opposite your chosen positive direction need negative signs. The same rule applies to every entered quantity. Consistent signs preserve the physical meaning.

Can acceleration be zero?

Yes, zero acceleration describes constant velocity motion. Some rearranged equations then become unavailable. The calculator reports division problems clearly.

Why can time have two answers?

A position may be crossed while rising and falling. Quadratic motion equations can therefore return two times. Only real non-negative times are displayed.

What is displacement versus distance?

Displacement measures signed position change. Distance measures total path length without direction. They differ after a direction reversal occurs.

How is stopping distance calculated?

The calculator first finds when velocity reaches zero. It then evaluates displacement at that stopping time. Acceleration must oppose the initial velocity.

Does the calculator include air resistance?

No, standard equations assume constant acceleration only. Air resistance often makes acceleration change continuously. Use a numerical model for drag.

Can two moving objects be compared?

Yes, select the comparison calculation type. Enter each object's position, velocity, and acceleration. The calculator solves their intersection times.

Why are graph values different after changing units?

The underlying motion stays physically identical. Displayed numbers change with selected output units. Unit conversion does not alter the trajectory.
