Formula Used

The main calculation multiplies net sheet area by thickness and material density. Quantity, expanded-metal factors, tolerances, coatings, scrap, and packaging are then applied separately. This keeps each adjustment visible and easier to verify.

Sheet weight = Net area × Thickness × Density × Expanded-metal factor
Batch weight = Sheet weight × Quantity
Shipping weight = Batch weight + Scrap weight + Coating weight + Packaging weight
Material cost = (Batch weight + Scrap weight) × Price per kilogram

For a rectangle, area equals length multiplied by width. A circular sheet uses π multiplied by radius squared. Ring, triangle, trapezoid, and custom-area methods follow their standard geometry formulas.

Understanding Metal Sheet Weight

Metal sheet weight depends on area, thickness, density, and quantity. Two sheets with identical dimensions can weigh very differently when their alloys differ. Steel is substantially heavier than aluminum at equal size and thickness.

Accurate dimensions matter because sheet area directly controls volume. Thickness must also use the correct unit and gauge standard. A small thickness error can become significant across a large production batch.

Cutouts reduce net metal area and therefore reduce finished-part weight. The calculator supports manual cutout area, percentage deductions, and repeated circular holes. Perforation percentage provides another practical deduction for ventilated or decorative panels.

Expanded metal needs an additional manufacturer weight factor. The strands and openings do not behave like solid plate area alone. Supplier mass-per-area data remains the best source for final procurement decisions.
