Grouped and Ungrouped Frequency Tables
An ungrouped table lists every distinct observation or category. It works best when datasets contain few unique values. Cumulative columns then reveal how observations build across values.
A grouped table places numerical values inside equal-width intervals. It simplifies large datasets and exposes distribution patterns quickly. Class boundaries prevent observations from entering overlapping intervals accidentally.

Relative frequency divides one frequency by the total count. Its values normally range from zero through one. Multiplying it by one hundred produces percentage frequency values.
4. How is cumulative frequency calculated?
Cumulative frequency adds each row to previous frequencies. The final cumulative value equals the dataset size. It helps locate medians, quartiles, and percentile positions quickly.
5. Which class rule should I choose?
Sturges’ rule suits many small or moderate datasets. Rice and square-root rules often create more classes. Freedman–Diaconis adapts width using spread and sample size.
6. Can the calculator process text categories?
Yes, categorical mode counts repeated words or labels. Case sensitivity can be enabled for exact matching. Grouped numerical intervals are unavailable for categorical information here.
7. Why were some values ignored?
Numerical mode rejects entries that are not valid numbers. Ignored items appear inside a warning above results. Correct those entries and generate the table again afterward.
8. What does frequency density mean?
Frequency density divides frequency by the class width. It is useful when class widths are unequal. Histogram bar area then represents the actual frequency correctly.
9. Can results be downloaded?
