Frequently asked questions

What is frequency?

Frequency counts repeated cycles during one second. Its standard unit is hertz. Higher values indicate faster repetition.

How is period related to frequency?

Period measures one complete cycle's duration. Frequency equals one divided by period. Shorter periods produce higher frequencies.

Can this estimate sound frequency?

Yes, use cycles and time directly. You may also use wave speed and wavelength. Temperature changes sound speed slightly.

What does the Nyquist warning mean?

Digital sampling must capture enough points. Twice the signal frequency is the minimum. Higher rates usually improve practical analysis.

How does RPM convert to hertz?

Divide RPM by sixty for revolutions each second. Then multiply by pulses per revolution. This gives pulse frequency.

What is angular frequency?

Angular frequency uses radians per second. Divide it by two pi. The result is ordinary frequency.

How are measurement outliers detected?

What is coefficient of variation?

It compares standard deviation with the mean. The result is shown as a percentage. Lower values suggest steadier measurements.
