The denominator must never equal zero. Negative values are accepted. Improper fractions are also accepted. A result may exceed 100 percent whenever the fraction exceeds one. The batch tool accepts one fraction per line. It also accepts mixed numbers and decimal values.
Understanding fractions and percentages
A fraction represents one quantity divided by another. The numerator appears above the fraction bar. The denominator appears below it. A percentage expresses the same relationship per one hundred. Therefore, converting a fraction requires division followed by multiplication by one hundred.
The fraction three eighths becomes 0.375 after division. Multiplying 0.375 by one hundred produces 37.5 percent. This method works for proper fractions, improper fractions, mixed numbers, negative fractions, and fractions containing decimal values.
Converting mixed numbers
A mixed number contains a whole number and a fraction. Convert it into an improper fraction first. Multiply the whole number by the denominator. Add the numerator. Keep the original denominator. Then divide and multiply by one hundred.
For example, two and one half becomes five halves. Five divided by two equals 2.5. Multiplying 2.5 by one hundred gives 250 percent. The answer exceeds 100 percent because the mixed number exceeds one whole.
Repeating percentages and rounding
Some fractions produce repeating decimals. One third becomes 0.333 forever. Its percentage becomes 33.333 percent forever. The calculator detects repeating cycles for many integer fractions. It also displays a practical rounded value using your selected precision.
Rounding changes presentation, not the underlying value. Half-up rounding is familiar for everyday work. Half-even rounding can reduce cumulative bias. Floor always moves downward. Ceiling always moves upward. Truncation simply removes extra digits.
Accuracy and large values
This tool calculates with standard floating-point arithmetic. It handles normal educational, financial, and measurement values well. Extremely large values may use scientific notation. Tiny values may require additional decimal places. Always preserve enough precision for your intended decision.
Simplifying a fraction is optional before percentage conversion. The percentage stays identical because equivalent fractions represent the same ratio. However, simplified fractions are easier to read, compare, and verify manually.
