Architecture matters
Two-stage converters are not always simple series devices. Their performance depends on turbine arrangement, stator behavior, clutch logic, gearing, and control strategy. Use manufacturer performance maps whenever certified data is available.
Stall speed is application dependent
Stall behavior changes with engine torque, converter geometry, fluid conditions, and installation losses. Treat calculated stall or flash speed as an estimate until dynamometer or vehicle testing confirms it.
Thermal capacity can control selection
A converter may satisfy torque and power limits while failing heat rejection requirements. Review loss, cooler capacity, fluid temperature, startup duration, and repeated-start duty together.
Sales outputs require approval
Suitability scores assist comparison but do not replace engineering approval. Critical applications should include verified dimensions, certified curves, torsional analysis, and documented acceptance criteria.
