Frequently Asked Questions
How is a saving throw modifier calculated?
Add the relevant ability modifier and proficiency when applicable. Then include temporary bonuses, magic items, auras, and penalties. The final total modifies every related saving throw roll.
Does proficiency apply to every saving throw?
No, proficiency applies only to selected saving throw abilities. Class presets choose the standard two proficiencies automatically. Manual checkboxes support feats, monsters, and homebrew campaign changes.
Do natural 1 and natural 20 automatically decide saves?
Ordinary saving throws usually compare the final total against DC. The optional checkbox enables automatic natural outcomes as house rules. Specific abilities may still create exceptions during actual play.
How does advantage affect probability?
Advantage rolls two d20s and keeps the higher result. This improves success odds without adding a fixed modifier. The probability table computes every possible dice combination exactly.
How does disadvantage work?
Disadvantage rolls two d20s and keeps the lower result. It reduces success odds most strongly near moderate DCs. The calculator displays its separate success and failure percentages.
Can the calculator include Bless or Resistance?
Yes, enter effects like 1d4 within bonus dice. Multiple dice and flat additions are also accepted. Examples include 2d4, 1d6+2, or a fixed bonus.
How is a concentration DC calculated?
The calculator uses ten or half the damage taken. Half damage is rounded down before comparing both values. Revised rules also cap the displayed concentration DC appropriately.
Are death saves ability checks?
Death saving throws do not use an ability modifier. Results of ten or higher normally count as successes. Natural rolls and damage create their special tracking effects.
Can I calculate monster saving throws?
Yes, switch the mode to monster or NPC. Challenge Rating determines the automatic proficiency bonus when used. Ability scores up to forty remain available in this mode.
Can I save and share character settings?
Local presets store data inside the current browser. JSON export creates a portable character configuration file. CSV and PDF tools provide readable result summaries afterward.
