Formula used

The calculator combines date arithmetic with configurable requirement checks.

Service-duration calculations

Time in grade = completed calendar months between the date of rank and eligibility evaluation date.

Credited service = completed service months + verified credit months − noncreditable months.

Cumulative enlisted service = completed months from the enlisted service date, with entered adjustments.

Earliest planning date

The estimated date is the latest applicable date among time-in-grade, time-in-service, and cumulative-service minimums.

Rule status

Requirement status = Met, Not Met, Conditional, Waiver Possible, or Manual Review.

A hard failure produces “Not Currently Eligible.” Unsupported pathways produce “Manual Review Required.” Promotion-stage deficiencies can produce a withholding result.

Unofficial score comparison

Entered score = recommendation + PFE + SKT + decorations + other entered points.

Historical margin = entered score − historical cutoff. This comparison never predicts selection.

Understanding Air Force promotion eligibility planning

Eligibility, selection, and promotion are different decisions.

Start with the correct promotion pathway

Promotion planning begins with the member’s component and career type. Regular Air Force enlisted promotions can use service, grade, skill, education, testing, and recommendation requirements. Reserve and Guard pathways may also depend on participation, vacancies, manning, controlled grades, or recognition. Officer promotions use board schedules, competitive categories, zones, and record deadlines. Therefore, one universal rule cannot produce every official answer.

Separate minimum eligibility from selection

Meeting minimum requirements usually permits consideration. It does not guarantee selection. Quotas, scores, board judgments, promotion statements, records, and career-field needs may affect outcomes. This calculator reports minimum-rule results separately from the optional score comparison. Historical cutoffs remain references only. A future cycle can produce different results.

Check the evaluation date carefully

Service requirements often apply on a specific cutoff date. Entering today’s date may produce a different result. Use the verified promotion eligibility cutoff date whenever available. The calculator measures completed calendar months. It also supports verified service credits and noncreditable periods. Document every adjustment before relying on the timeline.

Review conditional and withheld results

A selected member can still have promotion withheld. Missing education, skill completion, retainability, records, fitness, or pending actions may prevent immediate promotion. Conditional results require follow-up. A waiver checkbox only records an assumption. It does not establish waiver authority or approval.

Keep policy versions visible

Promotion guidance changes over time. This file displays a dated preset and provides custom rules. Administrators should update minimums, effective dates, references, and notes together. Old scenarios should retain their policy label. That makes later review easier.

Use results as a checklist

The strongest use is structured preparation. Review each requirement, correct missing data, gather source documents, and contact the servicing personnel office. Exported reports should remain unofficial. Never use this calculator alone for an adverse decision, financial entitlement, or binding career action.

Frequently asked questions

These answers explain the calculator’s limits.

Does an eligible result guarantee promotion?

No. Eligibility normally permits consideration. Selection, quotas, testing, boards, records, and sequence numbers remain separate.

Can this calculator determine an official promotion date?

No. It estimates an earliest planning date. Official increments, effective dates, withholding actions, and personnel updates control promotion.

Why does an officer result require manual review?

Officer eligibility depends on board-specific zones, categories, records, dates, and statutory or policy controls. The form organizes those inputs without issuing an official determination.

Does the waiver checkbox approve a waiver?

No. It changes the planning status only. The appropriate authority must determine eligibility, availability, documentation, and approval.

Why are Reserve and Guard results reviewed manually?

Component promotions may involve participation, vacancies, position grades, controlled grades, quotas, and federal recognition. Those details require authoritative component records.

How should I enter service credit?

Enter only verified months supported by an authoritative record. Use noncreditable months for documented lost periods. Keep notes explaining every adjustment.

Are downloaded reports official records?

No. CSV and PDF reports document entered assumptions. They do not replace personnel records, promotion products, orders, or official notifications.

Does this page store personal information?

The server code stores no database records. Optional scenarios use browser local storage. Avoid entering protected, medical, investigative, or identity information.
