    Formula used

Adjusted speed begins with the selected movement speed. Bonuses and penalties apply before custom multipliers. Minimum and maximum limits apply last.

Total allowance equals adjusted speed plus each Dash addition. Standing, spent movement, and route costs reduce that allowance. Remaining movement shows whether the route fits.

Jump distance uses Strength and the selected start type. A running long jump uses the Strength score. A standing jump normally uses half that result.

Normal travel uses three miles per hour by default. Fast and slow paces change that baseline. Terrain, rests, mounts, and vehicles can modify totals.

    How to use this calculator

    1. Choose the rules edition and movement speeds.
    2. Select the mode matching your current movement question.
    3. Enter actions, terrain, conditions, or travel information.
    4. Press calculate movement and review every calculation step.
    5. Copy, print, or download the result when needed.

Use custom values for table-specific rulings. Review warnings before accepting a route. Your Dungeon Master makes the final ruling.

    Example movement data

Scenario Base speed Action Terrain Expected idea
Normal turn 30 ft None Normal Up to 30 feet
Dash turn 30 ft One Dash Normal Up to 60 feet
Difficult route 30 ft None 15 feet difficult Consumes 30 feet
Standing first 30 ft Stand from prone Normal Usually costs 15 feet

    Frequently asked questions

    How does Dash affect movement?

Each Dash adds movement equal to the applicable speed. Multiple available Dashes can add repeated amounts. Conditions may still reduce the usable total.

    How does difficult terrain work?

Difficult terrain normally costs extra movement for every foot. The default calculator multiplier is two. House rules can replace that value.

Can I combine walking and flying?

Yes, when the creature has those movement speeds. Movement already used affects the remaining special speed. The result explains the selected allowance.

Does standing from prone consume movement?

Standing normally consumes half the creature's speed. This cost uses the adjusted speed value. Speed restrictions can prevent standing normally.

    Does jumping add free movement?

A jump normally consumes available movement. The calculator includes optional run-up distance. It warns when movement is insufficient.

What happens without a climbing speed?

Ordinary climbing normally costs additional movement. The route calculator applies doubled cost by default. A climbing speed removes that automatic penalty.

    Can this calculate mount movement?

Yes, select a mount and its control type. You can use its speed directly. A mount Dash can increase its allowance.

    How are diagonal squares measured?

Choose equal diagonals, alternating costs, or Euclidean distance. Each method produces a different square count. Use the method selected by your table.

    Are house rules supported?

Custom speeds, multipliers, penalties, and route costs are available. Notes can record special table rulings. Final decisions remain with the Dungeon Master.
