Formula used
Net sales: Gross sales − discounts − refunds + included tax + included shipping.
Gross profit: Net sales − cost of goods sold.
Base commission: Eligible commission basis × applicable rate, or fixed amount × eligible sales or units.
Net payable: Base commission + tier bonuses + quota bonuses + salary base + manual adjustments − clawbacks − recoverable draw.
The calculator first filters transactions by date and report criteria. It then computes the chosen revenue or profit basis. Rate overrides, tiers, splits, and margin controls are applied next.
Quota bonuses are measured after transactions are assigned to representatives. Draw balances and manual adjustments are applied before final payout. Optional caps limit each representative’s commission total.

Frequently asked questions
Can this calculator import QuickBooks reports?
Yes. Export a sales report as CSV, then map its common columns through the included aliases. Review imported values before calculating payroll.
What is the difference between cash and accrual commissions?
Accrual calculations generally use invoice activity. Cash calculations use collected revenue and can hold unpaid amounts until customers pay.
How do progressive tiers work?
Each rate applies only to the amount inside its tier. Higher sales portions receive higher rates without repricing earlier portions.
How do retroactive tiers work?
The highest achieved tier rate applies to the entire eligible basis. This can create a larger payout jump at each threshold.
Can one invoice be split between two representatives?
Yes. Enter the secondary representative and the primary split percentage. The remaining percentage is assigned to the secondary representative.
Can I calculate commissions from gross profit?
Yes. Select gross profit and enter cost of goods sold. Minimum-margin controls can reduce or eliminate low-margin commissions.
How are refunds treated?
Refunds can reduce net sales and optionally create a clawback. The audit table shows the effect on each transaction.
What happens to unpaid invoices?
You can exclude them, calculate only collected revenue, or include them under accrual settings. Payment status remains visible in reports.
Can I add salary or draw amounts?
Yes. Add a salary base for the period and choose recoverable or nonrecoverable draw treatment for representative balances.
Does the calculator replace payroll review?
No. Review plan documents, transaction classifications, tax treatment, and local employment requirements before issuing payments.
Which exports are available?
You can export detailed CSV reports, PDF summaries, individual statements, copied summaries, and printable approval packages.
