Rate-per-volume formula
This mode scales the label amount directly. Every volume converts to milliliters first. Mass-based products use the entered density for approximate volume conversion.
Stock dilution formula
The concentration units must match. Desired concentration must remain below stock concentration. Water equals final volume minus measured stock solution.
Ratio formula
Final-parts mode divides the bottle between water and product. Add-to-water mode treats water as separate and may increase finished volume.
Coverage formula
Plant volume can also be calculated. The tool uses the larger requirement when both methods are supplied.
PPM relationship
Source concentration may be entered as percent or PPM. Target PPM must remain below source strength.
Calibration formulas
Coverage = Speed × Time × Spray width
Trigger mode multiplies measured output per trigger by trigger count. Flow mode also estimates covered area.

Understanding garden spray mixtures
Final volume and added water differ
A final-volume instruction includes every ingredient inside the stated total. A 500 mL final mixture does not mean 500 mL water plus concentrate. Product volume normally replaces part of the required water.
An add-to-water instruction works differently. It may direct the user to add product into a fixed water amount. The finished total can therefore exceed the original water quantity.
Small quantities need suitable tools
Very small product amounts are difficult to measure with kitchen spoons. A graduated syringe, pipette, or measuring cylinder can improve repeatability. Use dedicated equipment that never contacts food.
Rounding can create large percentage errors when quantities are tiny. This calculator reports exact and practical amounts separately. Choose a rounding increment supported by both the label and measuring tool.
Coverage depends on calibration
Garden area alone cannot reveal true spray demand. Nozzle pattern, trigger output, walking speed, plant canopy, and operator technique affect coverage. Calibration estimates actual output before treatment preparation.
Test the sprayer with plain water when appropriate. Measure output over a known trigger count or time period. Then calculate the product quantity for that observed volume.
Compatibility is not mathematical
Mathematical compatibility does not prove chemical, physical, legal, or biological compatibility. Products may separate, react, injure plants, or violate use directions. Never combine products without explicit label permission.
A jar test may reveal visible separation but cannot grant legal permission. It also cannot guarantee crop safety. Every applicable label remains controlling.
Prepare only the needed quantity
Unused mixtures can lose effectiveness or create disposal problems. Estimate area and sprayer output before mixing. Avoid storing prepared material unless the label specifically permits storage.
Clearly mark every container with contents and preparation date. Never use beverage bottles. Keep mixtures secured from children, animals, food, and unauthorized users.
Understand density and active ingredient estimates
Density connects product mass and product volume. Water is close to one gram per milliliter, but many concentrates differ. Use a technical data value when accurate mass conversion matters.
Active ingredient strength estimates the active portion inside measured product. It does not determine an approved application rate. Only the product label establishes permitted concentration and use.
Use headspace intentionally
Some bottles need empty space for safe mixing or agitation. Headspace reduces the usable final volume. The calculator applies headspace after the selected fill percentage.
Do not create pressure inside an unsuitable bottle. Follow container, ventilation, agitation, and storage directions. Never improvise when the label specifies specialized equipment.

Does this calculator replace the product label?
No. Current label directions and local legal requirements always override every calculated result.
Should water equal the full bottle size?
Usually not. During final-volume mixing, the product occupies part of the bottle.
Can teaspoons measure every concentrate accurately?
No. Small quantities often need a dedicated syringe, pipette, or graduated cylinder.
What density should be entered?
Use a label or technical-sheet value. Enter 1 g/mL only for an approximate estimate.
What does a 1:10 ratio mean?
Meaning varies. Confirm whether it means one product part plus ten water parts or one part within ten total parts.
Can two garden products be mixed?
Only when every applicable label explicitly permits the combination and intended application.
How is percent converted to PPM?
One percent equals 10,000 ppm. The calculator applies that relationship automatically.
Why does practical rounding show a warning?
The rounded amount may differ meaningfully from the exact calculated quantity.
Can the calculator estimate bottle output?
Yes. Use trigger-output or flow-rate calibration after performing a measured test.
How are recipes stored?
Recipes remain inside the current browser using local storage. They are not uploaded.
Can results be exported?

Can the calculator handle imperial gallons?
Yes. Imperial and US gallons are separate choices because their volumes differ.
Why is existing liquid included?
It reduces remaining usable capacity when topping up a partially filled container.
