Formula used
How to use the calculator
- Choose project, dimension, area, and weight units.
- Add every floor, wall, counter, stair, or custom surface.
- Enter doors, windows, sinks, or other deductible openings.
- Select marble dimensions, thickness, box count, and density.
- Choose a pattern and review waste, breakage, and slab yield.
- Add grout settings and all relevant project costs.
- Calculate, then copy, print, or export the final estimate.
Example data
| Input | Example value | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Floor dimensions | 20 ft × 15 ft | Calculates 300 ft² gross area. |
| Tile size | 24 in × 24 in | Each tile covers about 4 ft². |
| Straight-layout waste | 7% | Allows for cuts and normal site losses. |
| Pieces per box | 4 | Rounds the purchase into complete boxes. |
| Thickness and density | 20 mm and 2,700 kg/m³ | Estimates volume and delivery weight. |
| Material rate | £15 per ft² | Estimates the marble purchase cost. |

Frequently asked questions
How much extra marble should I order?
Most straight layouts need about five to ten percent extra. Complex patterns usually require a larger allowance. Confirm requirements with your installer before ordering materials.
Does the calculator round pieces upward?
Yes, partial pieces are always rounded to complete pieces. Supplier order multiples are applied afterward. Boxes are also rounded upward to whole packs.
Can I calculate several rooms together?
Yes, add one project section for each room. Identical rooms can share one row. Use the quantity field to repeat matching areas.
How are doors and windows handled?
Enter each opening as a rectangular deduction. Its area is removed from the gross surface. Do not deduct openings your installer plans to cover.
What density should I use for marble?
Many marble products fall near 2,600–2,800 kg/m³. Exact density varies by stone and moisture. Use supplier data for transport or structural planning.
What does usable slab yield mean?
Yield represents the usable percentage of purchased slabs. Veins, defects, and matching reduce usable material. Lower yield increases the calculated purchase area.
Should grout gaps reduce tile quantity?
Including joints slightly increases each installed tile module. This can reduce the theoretical tile count. Real layouts still require practical waste allowances.
Can the calculator estimate staircase marble?
Yes, select the staircase shape for a section. Enter width, tread depth, riser height, and steps. The result includes both horizontal and vertical faces.
How is marble weight estimated?
The calculator multiplies purchase area by thickness and density. This produces an approximate total mass. Packaging, pallets, adhesive, and grout remain separate.
Can I compare two tile sizes?
Enable the comparison option near the form bottom. Enter another size, pack count, and price. The result compares pieces, boxes, and material costs.
Is this estimate suitable for ordering?
It provides a planning estimate using entered assumptions. Site conditions and slab layouts can change requirements. Verify final quantities with suppliers and installers.
